Waxing and permanent hair removal are two of the current trends in the beauty industry. Women use it to get rid of unwanted hair on the different parts of the body such as face, legs, underarm and bikini line. Men also use these two to get rid of hair on the chest and legs. However, you may ask: Which one is right for me?
There is no definite answer to this question. There are those who prefer waxing while some others opt for the permanent hair removal. Before you choose, it can help if you know the difference between the two.
This is a process by which cold or hot wax is used to pull out all unwanted hair in a certain body area. The hairs are removed by their roots so they take much longer to re-grow. Often, hair grows back after four to six weeks. The benefits to this option is that it is inexpensive, but the downside is that you will need to make sure that hair has grown long enough before you can have it waxed again. Another downside is that exfoliation may be needed often for the waxed areas and you will need to repeat the process every so often.
Permanent Hair Removal
There are a number of permanent hair removal options but the two most popular are Electrolysis and Laser. Electrolysis is a procedure by which a fine probe is inserted into your hair follicle. An electrical current then destroys the hair at the root to prevent it from growing back. This type of permanent hair removal is a lengthy process as you may have to remove the hair one at a time. The process is also not advisable for large skin areas.
Laser is another type of permanent hair removal that involves the use of laser light to penetrate the skin and destroy hair at its root. There are different grades of laser and they have varying degrees of effectiveness, so you will have to ask your local salon/spa as to which type of laser they use.
The downside to using laser hair removal is that it can only work on hairs with dark pigmentation. Therefore, white and gray hairs are not included and may not be removed. It may also not be suitable to people with dark or olive skin. However, there are lasers today that can work with any hair color or skin type.
Laser is considered to be one of the best options for permanent hair removal but it may take time before the results to take effect. It takes a few sessions to finally get rid of the hair. Another advantage of laser is that it does not hurt as much as waxing does.
If you need waxing or permanent hair removal services, it is best to contact your favorite salon/spa to book a consultation and find out which option is best for you.
